Econ River Wilderness Area Restoration and Monitoring
E Sciences is providing monitoring and restoration services for the 200-acre Econ River Wilderness Area (ERWA) near McCulloch Road in southeastern Seminole County. Restoration of this area was required to mitigate flooding issues caused by improvements to the road and by adjacent development. Recommendations have included water control outfall structure construction and installation, five-year ecological monitoring, and timber cutting and removal/disposal.
E Sciences’ scope of services includes:
- Monitoring vegetation changes over the five-year time period of the project to determine what vegetation is there; how is it changing over time and does it match the typical succession to pine flatwoods
- Monitoring for exotic species recruitment
- Monitoring for gopher tortoises
Conducting bi-monthly groundwater sampling and piezometer monitoring to track groundwater fluctuations.
